Creative PAW: Creative Professionals for Animal Welfare

Hi, creativePAW Volunteers! I have three requests for creative volunteers this time. As a side note, I’d like to mention that I’ve worked with one of our requesters, Journey Ewell of Manchester NH Animal Shelter, at her feral cat spay/neuter clinics. She is very dedicated to helping animals.

If you think you can help any of these animal welfare organizations, please e-mail them via the e-mail addresses listed.

Also, please do spread the word about Creative Professionals for Animal Welfare. We need more volunteers, especially web designers and PR and marketing professionals.

Thanks so much for being a volunteer!

Organization:
Animal Adoption League

Organization’s website:
www.mynextpet.com

Description of organization:
We are an all-volunteer Animal Rescue Group serving the greater Charlotte Metro area. Our animals are kept in Foster Homes and at any given time, we have approximately 75+ available for adoption. Primarily, we get our animals via people needing to relinquish them, strays that our members and community finds along with animals taken out of high kill shelters. Spay & Neuter Programs and Transportation to Rescues in the North where there are shortages of dogs/puppies are a big part of the Animal Adoption League’s Mission.

Description of your project:
We need help doing a newsletter! The Animal Adoption League has always had a newsletter we try to send out a couple times a year. It’s called Paw Prints. We’ve lost the person(s) who used to do it and now we haven’t sent one out in almost a year. We would provide the stories, content and pictures . . . we would need someone who can put it together, help with editing and make it look good. This is something that’s important to the Animal Adoption League and we feel we’re missing out on donations right now because we haven’t had a newsletter. Any help – even a template to get us started – would be huge. THANK YOU!!!

Hi, creativePAW Volunteers!

I try not to send volunteer requests on the weekend, but this week I had a house full of guests AND I’ve been sick! We have six requests this time, and I’ll be sending another e-mail out with a few more requests early next week.

If you think you can help any of these animal welfare orgs, please contact them via the e-mail addresses listed.

Also, please do ask any other creative professionals you know to join creativePAW at http://www.creativepaw.org! We’re especially in need of web designers and PR/marketing people as those seem to be the most popular requests.

Have a wonderful weekend!

4. Kinship Circle Seeks Volunteer Media Consultant

Organization: Kinship Circle

Website:

http://www.kinshipcircle.org/disasters/

Kinship Circle — a 501c3 animal advocacy group with a specialized animal disaster aid faction — is presently deployed to the Gulf Oil Spill, in an investigative capacity to document oil-affected animals and alert Unified Command where they are. Although animal rescue groups (other than a handful of organizations authorized under Unified Command) currently do not have access into restricted zones, we are part of unique project.

Kinship Circle was asked to “embed” with acclaimed documentary filmmaker Tom McPhee for his All Eyes On The Gulf (AEOTG) expedition. Our animal disaster responders are on the ground to focus camera lenses and notepads on contaminated parts of Louisiana, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi and Texas. AEOTG is a scientific tour to collect visual records. It’s also a window to the truth. As part of AEOTG’s crew of filmmakers and photojournalists, Kinship Circle may deploy teams through August, as funds permit.

Description of your project:
WE ARE SEEKING SOMEONE TO:

* Distribute our press releases to national broadcast and print media.
* Follow-up with the press.
* Possibly write PSAs and other soundbite type messaging for social media such as Twitter.
* Possibly help coordinate interviews.
* Ultimately become a liaison between Kinship Circle and the press.

We need someone flexible, as the nature of disaster response is ever changing. This person’s media role may expand, if he or she is open to that. At a minimum, we need someone to assemble and circulate our press releases. Brenda, a writer herself, will create the press releases and provide a framework for any additional writing.

6. Bark Avenue Foundation Seeks Volunteer Web Designer

Organization:
Bark Avenue Foundation

Organization’s website:

http://www.barkavenuefoundation.org

Description of organization:
The Bark Avenue Foundation is a nonprofit 501c3 organization committed to significantly reducing pet overpopulation through spay/neuter, humane education, rescue and re-homing and community outreach. Because of LA’s cultural diversity as well as the myriad of languages and cultural beliefs, we find it is critical to do aggressive spay/neuter outreach in order to address the pet overpopulation crisis in our city.

Los Angeles has been identified as one of the cities having the highest euthanasia rates in the country. With the current economic crisis, people are being forced to abandon their beloved pets at a record rate. These two situations challenge us to urgently address every opportunity to save animals lives through Bark Avenue Foundations programs and outreach.

Our goal is to serve as a community resource for people (and their animals) in underserved areas in the greater Los Angeles area. We specifically chose to locate in South LA, not far from Skid Row, the USC Campus and the industrial neighborhoods south of downtown. By being in close proximity to the people and animals that need us most, we are able to be a visible and viable community resource for them and are able to provide spay/neuter information, spay/neuter access, and information on humane education, vaccinations, proper nutrition and proper pet care.

Description of your project:
Our website needs a facelift! Needs to be more user friendly, visually and navigational. All around updated. With a more user friendly site, more people who visit our site are apt to look around longer, and hopefully adopt one of our loving animals into THEIR loving home. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Dear creativePAW volunteers:

We have so many requests for volunteers this week (11 so far) that I’m going to split the requests up into two mailings this week so that each org gets a good chance to have their request read.

Since I compiled our volunteers onto this single list I have only around 120 people signed on — down from close to 2,000 before! So please do tell your friends who are web designers, writers, marketing professionals, photographers, and other creative professionals to sign on. Thanks so much — and thank YOU for being a volunteer!

County Animal Shelter

I took the job about a year ago and I am trying to turn the public’s opinion around about animal shelters in general . We had a very bad situation here but within a year we have a brand new shelter and we rarely have to put any dog to sleep. We get most of our dogs into rescues and our adoptions have skyrocketed. My goal is to educate the public on the good animal shelters and rescues and most importantly info about spay/neuter. we are starting from the ground up in all areas and need help in the worst way. Can you help?

We are a subproject of the Animal Protection League of NJ, formerly NJARA.

6. Midwest Animal Rescue & Services Seeks Volunteer Writer, Videographer, Graphic Designer & More

Organization:
Midwest Animal Rescue & Services

Organization’s website:
www.midwestanimalrescue.org

Description of organization:
Midwest Animal Rescue & Services (MARS) is an all breed animal rescue organization with approximately 250 to 300 animals in the system at any given time. Our rescued furry friends live in foster homes, as family members, until the day they go to their forever homes.

Our focus is on at-risk animals in the animal control impound system who are often overlooked by either the local adoptive public or other rescue organizations and who have a death date stamped on their paperwork. MARS is entering our fourth fiscal year and has adopted out over 3,000 animals all while maintaining a debt free status with 95% of our income coming from adoption fees.

Description of your project:
We are entering this fiscal year with the goals of revamping our organization to truly reflect our energy and enthusiasm as well as begin marketing our branding to the general public.

We desperately need to remake our physical presence, both online and in person, while interacting with the media. Our website needs a complete make over as do our marketing materials. We would like to create a cohesive look so that the website, marketing materials and offices reflect the same branding.

We would also like to expand and create videos to provide an engaging educational piece to our website.

Thank you for considering us!
