Dear creativePAW volunteers:

Thanks once again for belonging to Creative Professionals for Animal Welfare, and for offering your creative skills to animals in need!

We have a new request for volunteers from the Friends of Philly Zoo Elephants (FPZE). FPZE is a local grassroots group formed in 2005 to help rescue the elephants confined in the Philadelphia Zoo. Among other things, FPZE raises awareness of the problems associated with keeping elephants in captivity by visiting classrooms, providing information to the media, and holding public outreach events. One elephant, Dulary, was rescued in 2007 and permanently transferred to the Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee. Another elephant, Petal, died in June 2008. The two surviving elephants, Kallie and Bette, remain confined in the same 1940’s-era barren enclosure.

Marianne of FPZE writes:

I’d LOVE it if you could send out an email asking if anyone would like to volunteer for any of the following current projects for my group, Friends of Philly Zoo Elephants:

(1) Buttons – we have a template and some designs, but we could really some new and improved ones.

(2) Poster – we would like to have a few new posters to use at our outreach events. Among other things, we would like to have one comparing the different geographic dimensions of various spaces – e.g. 42 acres for the zoo, 2,700 acres for the sanctuary, and 5 miles for the wild. I’m not sure exactly how this would look, but I’m thinking each would be superimposed on the other. Another poster idea would be comparing a breeding facility to a sanctuary. We have rough drafts for all of these things.

(3) Flyers – we have a flyer, but we could use a professional editor to critique.

(4) Postcards/small leave-behind cards – we’d like to have a small card to give out in edition to the flyer with a snazzy photo and a few quick facts.

If you’re an artist, graphic designer, or editor interested in lending a creative hand to this organization, please e-mail Marianne at friendsofphillyzooelephants@gmail.com.

Thanks again for all you do for the animals!

Thank you so much for volunteering with creativePAW! In the last few months, creativePAW volunteers have helped the All Breed Rescue Network and Reach Out for Animal Rights with their newsletter and website. The orgs, the animals, and I appreciate the work you’re doing!

Here’s another project:

PAWS is looking for a creativePAW web designer to revamp their website. PAWS is a nonprofit organization based in Norwalk, Connecticut, dedicated to rescuing homeless animals and placing them in loving new homes.

Here’s a note from PAWS on what they’re looking for:

*****

1) You have to drill through several pages just to find the pets for
adoption. We are making it harder for people to see the pets.

2) The endless scrolling down the store page is a pain. Store layout needs to be improved.

3) We should go to more of a sectioned home page – Blocks for pets, donations, news, events etc.

4) Our navigation buttons at the top are every limited & people have trouble finding the links to other areas of the site because they are buried in type at the bottom of the page.

*****

If you’re a web designer interested in volunteering for PAWS, please contact:
